Ryanair returns to George Best City Airport
Belfast City Airport Watch are concerned that Ryanair plans to return to George Best Belfast City Airport for a summer season of flights to eight ‘sunshine’ destinations, commencing in June.
These flights will, in the most part, carry people from Northern Ireland to go on holiday and are unlikely to bring many inbound visitors here.
Moreover, planes travelling to overseas destinations require more fuel, making them heavier. They are also like to be full of passengers. Both factors tend to make such aircraft noisier, particularly on take-off.
It has always been our policy that the City Airport should cater for business and domestic travellers using short-haul flights and quiet aircraft, particularly as Belfast is already served by an international airport – from which Ryanair also flies.
